Area Church Women's Events - Spring 2014

This spring four of our five area church women's organizations are hosting province wide events. We would love to have you participate.  The posters are too small to read here so please click on the name of the event and you will find a full size poster with all of the details of when and where the event takes place and who to contact for more information.  I'll be attending the WMCEC Spring Enrichment Day and am looking forward to it.

Come out and enjoy the fellowship with
women of all ages and all walks of life!

Poovong Family Update

About a month ago I posted the following information about Tom and Christine Poovong, pictured here with their children, Phimchanok and Joseph.  Mennonite Women Canada is supporting their ministry among the Isaan people of northeast Thailand.

Tom and Christine will provide pastoral care, Biblical teaching, preaching, income generation and entrepreneurial development with the goal of equipping new believers to take on leadership of the church.  A related ministry would be to start a bilingual (English/Thai-Isaan) preschool both as a business and as a relationship building ministry in the community.

We will be sharing their prayer letters on our website under the heading Poovong Update.  You can read about their joys and challenges as well as their specific prayer requests.
They also have a Facebook page which you might want to visit.

Please remember them in your prayers!

Spring Leadership Assembly

Wow!  I can't believe it's been over a month since I've last posted.  There has been a lot of activity going on in Mennonite Women Canada.  The Spring Leadership Assembly (SLA) of Mennonite Church Canada takes place in early March every year.  This is the time when a representative - one from each of the 5 area churches meet with the President (Liz Koop) and the Secretary-Treasurer (Lois Mierau) to discuss our projects, analyze our financial statements and look ahead into the coming year.

We also spend time planning our bi-ennial business meeting which is held during the MC Canada Assembly to which  ALL WOMEN ARE INVITED.  This year Manitoba is the hosting province and Elsie Wiebe is heading up the local planning committee.  We are meeting at the Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg and are anticipating a coffee and dessert evening with a musical program.  We're just in the middle of finalizing the poster and it will be up on the blog as soon as we get the final word on it.

SLA was a great experience for us.....it was wonderful connecting face-to-face again and getting to know others in leadership in MC Canada as well as the many staff who work behind the scenes.  All of us on our executive appreciate the enthusiasm and helpfulness of the Assembly planning team - especially Coreena and Kara - and wisdom and advice of the Communications Department - Dan, Grant, Ryan and Moses. Our connection to Mennonite Church Canada is through Witness Council and their counsel is much appreciated and valued.
